Once Upon A Story

Cantadora is a Spanish word which means keeper of the old stories. The wisdom keepers if you will.

In Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D, Clarissa speaks to the “craft of making”.

She speaks to the craft of questions and stories. Which leads to the making of something, which she says is the making of the soul. To feed the soul is to support it’s increase. I agree.

My work and passion is also a craft of making and keeping stories, for me those are the stories of the heart. My stories, and your stories. Stories of love, care, compassion, grace, peace, joy and more. Our hearts are the container for these stories.

Clarissa says “Stories are medicine . . .  They have such power; they do not require that we do, be, act anything-we need only listen.” She suggests, ‘The remedies for repair or reclamation of any lost psychic drive are contained in stories”.

Story can be extremely healing. It can boost the immune system, increase DHEA, and support clearer thinking and actions.

Story can also deplete energy. It can cause your immune levels to drop for hours and increase cortisol which is a stress hormone that can lead to weight gain around the middle, aging, and many other health related side effects.

The American Institute of Stress cites that up to 90 percent of all health problems are related to stress. Chronic stress can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, depression, and sleep disorders.

Our “stories” which are thoughts and emotions lead to the way in which we react and feel. What our bodies do and how they react can be seen in our the story-thoughts.

It’s all about what story we are telling. What do we believe? What are we living? How can we make changes? Ask for help?

You can see the effects of thoughts in real time through the emWave ® Desktop, emWave2®, or Inner Balance for IOS; hardware/software programs from HeartMath®. Coherent, joyful thoughts (story) can recharge you, support clear thinking, productivity, and creativity. An incoherent story-thought, one that is stressful, can deplete you, and result in inability to focus, decreased productivity, and exhaustion.

What story would you like to live? What story would you like to pass on to your ancestors?

That is where the Cantadora comes in. You, as ‘The keeper’ of the old stories, and I believe, also of the new. It’s not the circumstances that can keep us stuck, it’s what we do with them. As we explore our journey’s, our stories, we can begin to see where we have come from, both in our own lives, and in the wisdom and wonder of those who came before us. And in that, we can honor, celebrate and create our own stories.

As we make the choice to shift our place in the story, and take action on moving beyond what does not support or affirm our lives, we began to grow into something larger. We may find ourselves healing after a long illness. We may change jobs or relationships, or finally realize that what we have always wanted is right there in front of us.
Through Cantadora there is an opportunity to share, learn, laugh, and grow.

This space is a home for some of the hearts stories that have been shared with me. I post them, with permission, to inspire you to embark on your own journey to tell your own story,  Enjoy . . .
